Donna Nook to Grainthorpe Marsh

Braved the wet and windy W - SW's this pm but probably shouldn't have bothered. Think we are in that period where a lot of winter stuff has moved on & we are waiting for the spring migrants to arrive. Anything still present probably stayed low today in the mod - strong winds. The male Hen Harrier & Greenshank continue to stay put. A Merlin was on the marsh. 83 Cormorants on a sandbar at the tide edge was a good count. A lone Song Thrush halfway down the track was probably an outward bound migrant. No sign of any Laplands in the usual spot, 10 Reed Buntings still there though. Only 2 Little Egrets seen - there has clearly been a reduction of Little Egrets present on the marsh over the winter, presumably having moved off due to the cold weather, with an clear increase of inland birds recorded.

Even the Armed Forces are being hit hard by the credit crunch
