Terrific Terek

Twitched my 1st ever & Lincolnshire's 2nd Terek Sandpiper at Gib this evening - see a pic here on the Lincs Bird Club Photo Forum. The bird gave excellent views on Tennyson's Sands from Harvey's Hide. Also seen: Marsh Harrier, Little Ringed Plover, 10+ Avocet, 2 Common Tern, a strong southerly passage of Swifts & 2 Bahama Pintails to add an exotic flavour to the evening. Red Kite & Buzzard seen on the way to Gib & a Badger running along the roadside on the way back.

A few hours in a cold easterly checking Grainthorpe Marsh this evening. Highlight was a Spoonbill that flew through heading south. Also seen: 6+ Little Egret, 2 Barn Owl, Corn Bunting & a couple of Painted Ladies.

Back to the patch

Back covering Stonebridge to Pyes today. Very quiet in a moderate and cold NE wind. Best birds were: 2 Cuckoo, Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat and a Chiffchaff. Little Egret numbers are now clearly on the increase - signs of a good breeding season? Suprisingly, there was some movement today, Swifts were moving down the coast & good numbers of Lesser Black-backed Gulls were moving N (along with smaller no's of Herring Gulls).
Butterflies included Large Skipper, Small Heath, Common Blue & Painted Lady.
Several Bee Orchids were seen & the first Pyramidal Orchids were starting to appear.

Finally, from a trip to Humberston yesterday, another bank appears to have gone under thanks to the recession - people can't say they weren't warned here

Red-necked Phal

A quick twitch after work to Humberston Yacht Club Pools for the male Red-necked Phalarope which showed very well - only the 2nd one I've seen in Lincs.
