Tetney 27/12/16

I was hoping the recent strong winds might have shaken things up on the humber but it was pretty much the same. On the humber were 3 Red-throated Diver, 18 Great Crested Grebe (my highest count for here), 5 Gadwall, 23 Common Scoter and the Long-tailed Duck still - this was my 12th consecutive visit with at least one Long-tailed Duck seen.
As always, a good selection of birds of prey seen including 2 Hen Harrier (one a fine male), 2 Peregrine, Merlin and Short-eared Owl. A Tawny Owl called in Tetney Lock village just after dark.
Other highlights were Water Rail, 150 Fieldfare, a mixed flock of Linnet & Twite totalling 30 birds and also 2 Lapland Bunting.
There was a steady passage of gulls upriver throughout the day - predominantly Herring Gulls.
