Tetney 07/01/17

Out with DW today. A largely cloudy day with an F2 SW. Thick mist rolled in mid-morning but thankfully soon lifted.
On the humber were 4 Red-throated Diver, 4 Great-Crested Grebe, 2 Goosander, 13 Common Scoter, 46 Gadwall, 116 Teal & 3 Shoveler. A single Gannet also flew upriver.
Birds of prey seen included 2 Hen Harrier, 3 Peregrine, 2 Merlin and 5 Short-eared Owl.
Other highlights were Pale-bellied Brent Goose, Water Rail, Stonechat, c50 Linnet, the Snow Bunting still present, 14 Reed Buntings coming down to grit and a flock of 25+ Yellowhammers roosted.
A Noctule Bat on the wing was a surprise at first light - apparently in suitable conditions during winter they can be active at dawn and dusk.

The male Stonechat was showing well again today
