Tetney 02/01/17

A F4 NW to start the day with cloud, dropping to F3 by late morning and clouds disappearing to leave a sunny day.
The humber was sending mixed messages - a total of 9 Gannets upriver gave hope but there was to be nothing else on the move. Humber highlights were 1 Great Crested Grebe, 11 Common Scoter & 21 Gadwall - the grebe count no doubt low due to difficulty spotting them on a then choppy humber.
10 Little Grebe on the flashes at North Cotes Point was a record count.
Birds of prey didn't disappoint - Hen Harrier, Peregrine, Merlin, 2 Barn Owl and a total of 6 Short-eared Owls including 5 hunting over one area.
Other highlights were 400 Golden Plover, 2 Kingfisher, Stonechat, a total of 17 Grey Partridge was noteworthy, 150+ Fieldfare & 25 Twite.
5 Roe Deer also seen.
