Tetney 08/05/17

An unplanned afternoon visit but the report of a Dotterel by the southern boundary of the recording area meant I just had to give it a go.
Weatherwise it was still feeling very wintry with a blustery N wind and thick cloud throughout.

Star bird was of course the female Dotterel which thankfully showed well.

Other highlights from today: 2 Whimbrel, Greenshank, 2 Common Sandpiper, Barn Owl, Grey Partridge, Cuckoo and 2 Wheatear. A group of 5 terns flew by but I failed to ascertain their identity so were logged as "Commic" terns.

One patch tick today: Dotterel
2017 patch total: 138

Female Dotterel - the Tetney/North Cotes area has traditionally been one of the best in Lincs for catching up with this special wader during spring passage. DW and I actually checked this field for Dotterel only 2 days previously!

Dark-bellied Brent Goose RDN6
I also saw this bird in the same place 28/11 and a red-colour-ringed bird briefly seen there 21/4 was also likely to be the same individual. Ringed in the Netherlands in 2015. RDN6 is staying later along our coast this spring - last year he was back at his spring passage site in the Netherlands by 29/3.
